Those Who Will Survive

As I drove to work the other day, (yes, I am forunate enough to still have a job) I saw an interesting fellow.

I was sitting at the stoplight, watching cars drive by, people coming and going at the bank on the corner. A pickup pulling a utility trailer loaded with a riding lawnmower, a weedeater and various other small tools rolled to a stop in the lane beside me.

The driver, dirty and sweaty, had his windows down and I could hear the music playing from inside the cab of the truck as he tapped along to the beat on his steering wheel. What was so interesting to me about this fellow, is that he had hand painted on his truck AND the side of the riding lawnmower, the following: I NEED WORK; and his phone number.

I thought to myself, What a great idea! If they see him when he is mowing, OR driving down the street, they can write down his phone number!

This gentleman did not appear to be unhappy or feeling sorry for himself. He also did not look like the typical lawncare personel that I generally see here in Florida. Most of them have 2 to 4 guys in the front of the truck and pulling a trailer with numerous lawnmowers and equipment.

This man was by himself and it was clear he had created the advertisement on his vehicle and mower by hand. I thought to myself, this man will survive the recession. This guyWILL make it.

He was making the best of things with what he already had. He obviously wasn't letting the recession stop him and he wasn't sitting at home on his couch, waiting for the "employment fairy" to drop something in his lap.

Kudos to the guy with his phone number hand painted on the side of his lawn mower!{jcomments on}
