On Father's Day
Here it is, Father's Day 2009.
It seems like it was just yesterday, I was trailing my Dad around his mechanic shop, watching him work on cars and tractors. I can still smell the diesel, and the oil and grease. Those are good smells to me, they take me back to a time when things were simple and good.
I am lucky enough to have the best Dad in the whole wide world. My Dad, taught me so many things, I'm not even sure where to start. He taught me how to ride a bike, he taught me how to ride a motorcycle even, when I was seven years old. He taught me how to fish, how to camp outdoors. He taught me how to drive, how to change a tire, how to change the oil in my car. He taught me about finances and that no matter how good it looks on paper, it will never be that easy!
He taught me that life isn't always fair and to give up on that notion. He taught me to use my head, to question things and to never stop learning. He taught me how to be extremely independent, and how to take care of myself. There is nothing, nothing I cannot do, if I put my mind to it. Because of my Dad. He is my hero.
He taught me to trust in God and to have Faith. My Dad believes that God will always be there for him when he needs Him. He has instilled that belief in me. He has always believed that no matter what others are doing or what the trend may be, sticking to your word, and keeping your integrity intact, will always put you above the rest. Again, he was right.
All of my life growing up, and to this day, my Dad has been there for me. Through the good times and through the tears, he has always been right beside me. Although he lives 1500 miles away, he is just a few keystrokes away. I miss him desperately some days, but I always know.....he is right there, waiting for me if I call out.
Many thanks to my Dad for making me the person that I am today.
Happy Father's Day!
