Colors and the Tarot

Color plays a very important part in the Tarot. Color can designate an overall feel of a spread or nuances within a spread.

For an example, if a spread has Yellow in the majority of cards, and the cards are mostly in the upright position, you will know right off that this is a very positive spread before you even look at the individual meanings of the cards.

Read on for color meanings:

WHITE: Symbolizes purity, innocence, sprituality, intuition. It can also represent coldness, sterility.

YELLOW: Bright like the sun, portrays warmth, happiness, goodness, energy, brilliance. It is also the color of Mercury, the planet of communication and speed. It can also represent cowardice.

ORANGE: Symbolizes fire, passions, desire, vitality, vigor, physical health, enjoyment.

RED: symbolizes passion, love, sex, it is also the color of Mars, the plent of energy and aggression. It can also represent danger and anger.

PINK: symbolizes cooling passions. Pinks are soothing and calming and indicate friendship, forgiveness, acceptance, love, romance, harmony.

BLUE: symbolizes depth and calmness, tranquility and meditation.

INDIGO: symbolizes cosmic mysteries, the heavens, wisdom, contemplation.

VIOLET: symbolizes royalty, leadership, luxury, wealth and sophistication.

GREEN: symbolizes nature, healing, fertility. creativity, prosperity. It can also symbolize jealousy, envy and greed.

BROWN: symbolizes earth, grounding and stability, practicality. It can also represent poverty and dirt.

BLACK: symbolizes darkness, sleep, subconscious, mystery. It can also symbolize mourning, depression, anxiety, upheaval and destructioin.

SILVER: symbolizes reflection, the color of the moon.

So next time you do a card reading, before you actually begin to reach the individual cards, take a look at the overall color of the spread. Is there any one color that appears to be more dominant?
